The Grand Casino Biloxi stood in Mississippi and was owned and operated by Caesars Entertainment. It was destroyed in 2005 by Hurricane Katrina, when plans had just been announced that it was being converted to the Horseshoe brand.
Caesars Entertainment was taken over by Harrah’s Entertainment in 2005, and plans for the Grand Casino Biloxi revamp included giving it the new name of Harrah’s Gulf Coast. Later Harrah’s adopted the old name of Caesars Entertainment, but the name Harrah’s Gulf Coast remains.
Hurricane Katrina destroyed the barge upon which the Grand Casino Biloxi game floor stood, and then swept the barge almost 500 feet across land. The hotel structure next to the beach was imploded in May 2006 by demolition crews, creating a clean site for rebuilding to begin. Over the years since Katrina more and more has been added to Harrah’s Gulf Coast, and it offers several amenities and services today.
Staying at Harrah’s Gulf Coast
The Grand Casino Biloxi had 975 rooms, while the new hotel has 494. These modern quarters all offer interactive technology and in-room entertainment, as well as many other special touches.
There was always quite a lot going on at the Grand Casino, and this tradition has been carried on by Harrah’s Gulf Coast. Today there is a luxurious pool for guests to enjoy, as well as the Bellissimo Spa and the award-winning Grand Bear Golf Course. Visitors can also choose from a variety of dining options and cuisines, including the upscale Magnolia house that is headed by celebrity chef Kelly English.
The casino’s bar, with great poolside views, is a good place to celebrate your wins or to drown your sorrows. Events are also often held on the concert lawn and there are good convention and meeting facilities as well. Plenty of local attractions are nearby as well, and the Destinations Gift Shop stocks a wide range of gifts and apparel and can help with purchasing tickets or organising other events as well.
Playing at Harrah’s Gulf Coast
The Grand Casino Biloxi offered a wide range of gambling options, and Harrah’s continues to expand its range. Players can choose from hundreds of Slots machines, many featuring Progressive Jackpots, and immersive Video Poker machines.
Table Games include Roulette, Craps, real money blackjack games, Three Card Poker and Mini Baccarat, all with large betting ranges that should suit most budgets. The Asian Gaming Room uses Feng Shui and other principles of Eastern design. Finishes in gold, the Asian colour for luck, help to make this stylish room a good place to enjoy high-quality games.
Caesars Entertainment has a Loyalty Programme called Total Rewards, which is known as a leader in the industry. Harrah’s is a core brand in this Programme, which has over 44 million members in its database.
Points are awarded for playing at the casino, but for everyday activities such as buying groceries as well. These can then all be exchanged for casino, entertainment, accommodation or dining credits. A certain amount of spending in any calendar year will upgrade players to VIP status, which offers many more exclusive offers and treatments. The idea is that the more you use the Programme and play at the casino, the more incentive you’ll have to keep doing it.
