Whether for practical reasons, religious worship, or simply to dazzle and inspire awe, this eye-popping engineering tradition has very definitely continued into the modern age in the form of the world’s largest mega-casinos.

Here is a list of five of the biggest casinos to be found in the world today.

  1. Winstar World Casino

Owned by the Chickasaw Nation, and situated in Thackerville, Oklahoma, USA, Winstar World Casino was expanded in 2009 to a record-breaking 600,000 square feet in area, officially making it the largest casino in the world. A record which it holds to this day.

This gargantuan luxury casino venue boasts an extensive luxury hotel, thousands of slot machines, gaming tables, bingo hall and poker rooms. It also has a vast selection of leisure and entertainment facilities and activities for its guests to enjoy. This includes an enormous Global Event Centre and a full-size Colosseum for its many high-level entertainment events.

  1. Venetian Macau

Following close behind, and covering an area of 546,000 square feet, is the incredible Venetian Macau luxury hotel and casino, situated in Macau, China. It is owned by Las Vegas Sands, and modelled after its sister casino, the Venetian Las Vegas, in the US.

This amazing 39-story tall venue is not only the second largest casino in the world but is also considered to be the 7th largest single building in the world by floor area.

The lofty structure contains an impressive number of hotel rooms, a sprawling casino area, convention space, and retail and leisure facilities. It is also the location of the renowned Cotai Arena for entertainment and sports events.

  1. City of Dreams Casino

Also in Macau, China, is the City of Dreams Casino, a 420,000 square foot luxury casino and resort. It is owned by Melco Resorts and Entertainment and was opened to the public on the 1st of June 2009.

Since then it has remained a top venue for gamblers and tourists, and its world-class facilities contain an extensive casino floor with huge selection of slot machines and gaming tables. As is the standard, it also boasts a large variety of shops, hotel guest facilities, restaurants, bars, and entertainment venues.

  1. Foxwoods Resort Casino

The Foxwoods Resort Casino is a renowned and well-established hotel and casino complex owned by the Mashantucket Pequot Tribe Nation. It is located on their reservation in Ledyard, Connecticut, USA.

Having been in existence since the 80s, it has long been a popular venue for gamblers and holidaymakers alike.

This impressive resort, which includes six casinos, measures around 340,000 square feet in total area. It has a massive twin-tower luxury hotel, and a sprawling luxury resort stretching out around it to an amazing 9 million square feet in size.

Another spectacular luxury hotel and casino resort in Macau, China, and coming fifth, is the Wynn Macau Casino, which covers an area of approximately 273,000 square feet. It is owned by international resort developer, Wynn Resorts.
